Self-referral to Pelvic Health Physiotherapy
If you live in Bristol, North Somerset or South Gloucestershire you will be able to self-refer to see a member of the pelvic health physiotherapy team.
Depending on your preference, you may be seen at either St Michael’s Hospital (BRI), Weston Hospital, Cossham Hospital or Southmead Hospital.
We can also accept referrals from your GP, Consultant, Midwife or other healthcare professional. You should speak to them if you need support with making a referral.
Please be aware that if you are referring yourself for the following symptoms, it is likely you will be offered an initial group session, which may be in person or online:
- If you are pregnant and experiencing pelvic pain or low back pain.
- If you are experiencing pelvic floor symptoms including urinary incontinence (leaking wee) and prolapse (bulge in the vagina).
Please don’t refer yourself if you are 36 weeks or more pregnant as we will not have an appointment slot to see you before your due date; instead, have a look at the information on this website. If your problem continues after you’ve had your baby, please refer yourself at this point.
The pelvic health physiotherapy services are extremely busy, and this might affect how long you have to wait for an appointment. We recommend reading the self-help information and watching the videos on this website before you refer yourself or while you are waiting to be seen.
Remember, if you are struggling or worried about your symptoms, you should speak to your GP or midwife.
